Fwismoker
somebody shut me the fark up.
One mans junk is another mans BBQ add on! Nothing spectacular but will be useful for me. Walking the dogs last night I took a short cut through an alley and noticed someone through out a bunch of steel rings 2" deep and a couple looked to be around 22-23" These were probably rings from a wine barrel I'm guessing. Brought one back with me and what do you know it fit perfectly, no need to even put in supports for it when I want to use it.
The plan is to simply notch out places to put the rebar. I'll set it up to have the option to hang 2 in one direction like the pit barrel and 3 in the other direction in case I need to hang more food. The unused direction will simply be more exhaust, plus I might drill some holes in between for the most even exhaust around the ring.
The benefits I see from this kind of set up are
1) The rebar just lifts out if you need or want to pull the meat out quickly/easily and simple to access the charcoal basket.
2) cleaner exhaust
3) still have easy temp control with the bottom vents
4) the ring just comes out for easy shut down
I don't plan to use this much but it'll sure be nice to have the capability in a drum smoker to hang a crap load of meat if need be. Thanks to stan the man for the idea to simply notch out for the rebar.
I'll take pics after it's painted and finished.
