Hello guys

Hey guys , building a BW clone and am about to start the doors and have a question . I am using 1/2 inch tadpole gasket and am not sure how much space to account for when welding on the hinges . I am thinking a 1/4 inch space( between the doors and smoker body ) would give room for the gasket to compress and still have a tight seal. Any thoughts would be helpful

The way that I set the spacing is to weld the hinge on the box good and the tack it on the door then put the gasket in place and close the door. The tack weld will bend and then the spacing will be almost perfect. The steel has a memory so it will spring open like it's too tight BUT the gasket will also shrink when heated. Kind of a trade off.
