Default Egg Question

How many burns should I get between complete cleanings. I did a 12 hour cook over the weekend. I need to do an over night cook tonight. I would think that the Egg should be OK without having to take it apart and clean out all of the ash Thanks

Just as long as the air can reach the fire box you should be fine! Just scoop out under the fire box grate if it seems to be a little full. I fully clean mine about once a month. Doesn't really make a difference its just me being anal. I heard of people who never clean them just remove the ash you can see and then I know of people who wash them out with a hose -overkill. I use a shop vac when I do clean it out.

I'm about the same as amrocks, just clean the ash out. I will say the large is fussier than the XL about being clean though.

I have an Oval. After I got it and was still playing, I cleaned it out after about a month, but realized there wasn't much point. In the last year and a half, I've only really scooped out the firebox. I do this almost every time, but there really is not much point to that either. There's not much ash when using lump.

I haven't taken mine apart in years. Just stir the leftover charcoal so the ash falls through and remove the ashes through the vent door. I have an old shop vac that does the job for me.

Oh, also make sure the six vent holes in the sides of the firebox are unblocked.

Thanks everyone. That is what I thought. I use wicked good. Do not get much ash with this. Had to ask the question as I did not to have problems in the middle of the night.

Make sure you put some large chunks of charcoal at the bottom. That will help to keep the vent holes open.

All good advice. On mine I do a lot of quick cooks and clean out the ash when it is 3/4 the way full in the FB. About every 2 months or so I will remove the Fire ring and Box and vacuum out the entire inside. When I do an overnight-er I like to have a clean unit to start with.

I have a tool I use to gently stir the lump at the bottom to get all the ashes through the holes. Clean the ashes out underneath and throw in some more lump.

I say a clean pit is a happy pit, so I clean my eggs often.
It only takes a few mins to do so I just do it.
