By the end maby, Lol. This was really the first thing I have done in aluminum besides playing with some scrap pieces. I learned all about wind, grinding many, many tungsten clean, blowing holes in hard to reach places, and running out of shielding gas.
I can't honestly say I would feel comfortable trying it again. But another day, another project! |

The Eastwood TIG200 has worked great for me so far. I am a bit jealous of the speed the MIG and stick welders can move though. I was originally worried about duty cycle, But apparently the torch pushing the 140 amps I needed for the Diamond plate weld got quite hot for thin TIG gloves and forced a break before I hit the duty cycle. Took me three runs of ~3-5 mins each with 6 -10 min breaks to weld up that top diamond piece on both sides. The rest of the welds were only an inch or so long so not a factor I had originally got the TIG because I was doing stainless work for a brewery I am building. Needed the versatility and precision that TIG offered. Aluminum capability was just a bonus, But after this project I'm starting to rethink the brewery. The steel frame with steel diamond plate weighs almost 200 lbs. |
