As far as I know, Weber doesn't sell briquettes or lump

Weber does sell briquettes and lump, at least here in Europe. For the first few cooks I used Weber Long Lasting Charcoal briquettes, because there was a special offer on those. Weber lump is way too expensive, so I never tried.

The manual tells the following on page 7 at "Getting Started / Before lighting":

Quote:
Weber recommends the use of charcoal briquettes with your Webber Smokey Mountain Cooker. Lump charcoal or heat beads are not recommended.

Interesting. I could be mistaken, but have never seen Weber fuel, except the lighter cubes, here in the states.

The European manuals must differ also. My page 7 shows steps 3 and 4. Page 12 has the getting started info, but no mention of lump

Oh well, using ours for years without ill effect. Not sure why they would say not to use lump, except maybe briquettes when used as directed might be a bit easier? My manual doesn't mention it, so I guess we're exempt:D

The only reason I can think of why Weber is not recommending lump is that they know that the charcoal grate lets smaller pieces fall through, which is no problem when using briquettes of course. But who really knows, at least we know better. As often mentioned, the Weber manual is only good for assembling the unit, better not read the rest at all. Lump is fine, lump is good, lump all the way!
