WSM damper question...
Is there anyone that sells stainless dampers for the WSM? I lug mine around quite a bit and the dampers have taken a huge beating and really aren't all that functional anymore. i was hoping someone out there made a damper that was a little more sturdy than the ones made by weber. I have seen the stainless doors from Cajun Bandit but never seen stainless dampers. Any ideas?

To answer your specific question - no I don't. But I have a suggestion - keep an eye out on Craigslist for old, beatup Webers. You could salvage one there.

Thanks bmonkman. replacement dampers are pretty cheap, $15 shipped from weber for three of them so cost isn't the issue as much as the time to keep replacing them. I guess the best thing I could do is figure a better way to transport it but I just can't seem to figure that out and really can't understand what is messing them up.

I don't transport mine, and mine are bent, too. Just opening and closing them bent them. One leaks considerable amounts of air when closed.

Buy yourself a piece of stainless and cut your own out.
I've used this template before, works great: http://home.comcast.net/~day_trippr/...r/damper_3.pdf if you look about half way down on this write up you'll see how to do it: http://home.comcast.net/~day_trippr/smoker_mods.htm

I bought a couple used beat up 18" WSM's and its just easier to order vents from Weber, drill out the rivets and bolt the new ones on. At least that way you can R&R them when they do get bent out of shape. FWIW, I built road cases for my 22"&18" WSM's for transporting in the trailer.

What's a road case?
It might be a good idea to shoot a note to the folks at Cajun Bandit and suggest that they sell them. They do a great job with the replacement doors and the extender. Eric

Wager,
If you buy replacement daisy wheels, and mount them with bolts and wing nuts, it wouldn't be that tough to take them off before you transport the WSM. Just a thought...

The box on the Left holds two 18" WSM's, weed burner, smoke woods nested in the bullets. The two on the Right each hold a 22" WSM, a rotisserie ring, spit rod and a bag of KBB nested inside. 3/4" plywood top and base, 2x2 frame with thin plywood sheeting. Locking swivel casters. Nothing fancy and carpenter I am not. I use tie down straps to secure them in a 6x10 enclosed ramp trailer. Lightweight items get stacked on top and filled in around them. Got the idea from my current teammate Ty Staley, who had built some super solid cases for his 18" WSM's.

I'm not sure. I position the smoker in a way that they shouldn't be contacting anything b ut seem to be bent up by the time I get it home. not sure if it is happening during transport, loading or unloading. I never can remember hitting the dampers on anything.

Is the WSM tied down my bungie cords or straps? It's not rolling around? If I were going to transport it, I would use an old folded towel or something over the top of it, then strap it down.
