There was a Jambo there in dire need of repairs, flat tires, bad firebox door, dirty, etc. Some guy out of Cleveland had left it with a "Bud" in Texas.
But what can I say, I stunk up the place so bad that I got several judges down right sick. Have an email into Merl of where to send the "get well soon" cards. Great warm up for Austin! I'm considering getting lost on the way. This is one of the primere contests in OK and a must do. Great organization, amenities, etc. Convinced them to offer private porta potty's next year. The 3 at the entrance were condemed by the Health Department and taken over by the science department at OU for new life forms research. Great job to Donnie, he did smile, and to David for a job well done. (one more appearance point) |

This was a good contest and it was a great time to meet teams that I have not had the opportunity to cook with.
David, I will say it again, thank you for helping me out....a failed injector can really ruin a contest. I knew that it was going to be tough cooking in a field of almost all OK cooks, having never cooked in OK....and I was fortunate enough to have the 2 calls, and as always, it is fun to watch the MC struggle with saying 2 Worthless Nuts. The organizers really worked their tails off, and besides the drunk arse sitting on my cooker it was memorable. Yes, the Jambo was in dire need of a bath after the contest...being right between the 2 golf cart paths throwing dust all over, and then beside the ash barrels I am surprised that the pit performed as well as she did. If you get a chance to head to this contest my best advice is DO....and bring your game face, because it is a tough field to beat.....
