Default Hoo be Qin'!!!

For thoes of you who thought it would never happen, I got off work early today and picked up a chicken on the way home. I didn't want to risk anything expensive or do something complicated because I have no experience with this Brinkman Stillwater. At first I over stoked it with a mix of charcoal and wood. I only used one chimney but I couldn't help adding some extra, thinking it wasn't going to be enough to heat that huge motha up to temp. It didn't take long and soon I was haveing to take briquetts out to cool it down. It comes right up to temp and is amazingly stable. Takes a suprisingly small amount of fuel to do so as well. I'm impressed. Well between trying out my new smoker and new remote thermometer I'm going nuts but with a big smile on my face and a home brew in my hand. I will post pictures later this evening if I have time and can figure out how. I love you guys. Thanks for getting me this far and putting up with my insessant questions.

The metal in that cooker should hold the heat very well on calm days. When you get around to cooking a butt or brisket, a small fire will probably last you 3-4 hours with just a little maintinance,
Start looking for an insulated blanket near the end of the summer to put over the top so you can experience Q all year around.

Interesting thing was that this evening was a bit cool (55) and the wind was blowing. From my experience with my Great Outdoors vertical charcoal smoker I was prepared to put the fire to it. Typically on a day like today I would have to either put a moving blanket over the rig or pile on more charcoal. The Brinkman shot right up there and held an even temp easily. Not sure I'm going to be a year round BBQ person. I don't mind the cold, it's just that dam wet rain running down your neck. The Pacific Northwest is the pits for outdoor cooking in the winter.

It takes me a while to catch on as I'm kind of slow, but when I do I'm dangerous. I was having trouble posting the pics on the same thread. I'll review and see if I can do better nest time.

Not prize winning but Mom and the wife were impressed. Served with killer potato salad, sliced onions and tomatoes in vinegar and oil, asparagus and corn on the cob.

Hoo, congrats on getting off the fence, that wire had to be starting to chafe You've got a nice heavy gage cooker that should provide you with years of good service! Best of luck!! BTW- the bird looks good, try brining the bird next time, you'll be amazed at the difference.
