Charcoal basket question.
So I have a tremendous difference in the burn times for charcoal on my drum vs. my offset I am curious if this is just the design of the smokers themselves or if it has to do with the charcoal basket? Would it make a big difference to put together a charcoal basket for my offset? Also if that is the case what would be the outcome of a charcoal basket for my webers? And then is there a particular design that works best I have been seeing those ones that are somewhat mazelike and it seems that would get a longer burn but what about heat consistancy?

You are absolutely correct about smoker design being the main component in burn times. Drums have more convection, therefore needing less fuel to ooperate at a consistent temp. As far as baskets in an offset, These allow longer burn times, but don't expect miracles.

Unfortunately no, it got picked up last night. What I do have however is another brother in smoke and for that I can be eternally greatful. You should have seen the glimmer in his eyes when he picked it up, it was like a schoolgirl with her first crush.

We make and use baskets in our smokers
The Best we have done on the Klose is 5 hours before the temps drop ... This was after cooking with sticks for four hours It works for us As far as the maze the fire jumped the maze in many of our prototypes In the end a huge single basket using a Minion Cook seems to work best You can use the metal tub out of an old washing machine for a basket Works just fine We did put a expanded metal floor in it giving the ash somewhere to go

Here is the charcoal basket I made for my B-B-Chef offset. I never checked the burn times but it did allow me to put in more charcoal then I could without it, so the burn time had to be longer.
