Default pork butt freak out

ok, so i put a rubbed butt on my smoker yesterday morning around 8 a.m. All is going well till i get a call from the wifey saying she's running late and I have to go to Parent /teacher conferences at school 'cause she can't make it. I'm like...what about my butt! She say's she'll be home in time to monitor it. With nervous anticipation, I go to the conferences and in between times, i'm texting her to see if she's home etc. She finally gets home and i ask her to check the temp. She texts back..it's 183. I'm thinking...thats odd..it was already 181 when i left over 45 mins ago! After conferences, i'm on my way home and ask her to check again, she says...it's down to 90. I'm like...NINETY...what the fark??? Then it dawns on me........she's reading the thermometer stuck in top of smoker thats monitoring smoker temp and smoker has run outta gas! I tell her to PLEASE read the temp on the little thingy that's attached to the probe coming outta the smoker. Ohhh...she says. 194. perfect..pull it and cooler it..i'll be home in 15 mins! I let it rest for about an hour and it pulled really easy....great flavor...family happy! phew!

I read a bumper sticker yesterday that seems to fit here...

Glad it turned out ok!

You really dodged a bullet there! The worst part is the knowlege that if it had not ultimately come out ok, it would somehow still have been YOUR fault.

I read a Tee shirt yesterday that said, "I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was going to blame you for it"

Glad the final product was acceptable. Was it better or worse or you couldn't tell?

When I have my wife looking after things, every once in a great while. I draw a line on the temp gauge with a dry erase and tell her, "If the needle moves from this line call me".
