Smoker has no top vents
Hi all, new here! I have recently inherited a smoker called a MECO 5000 series. My concern is that there are no exhaust vents on this. Should I possibly crack the lid a bit? The side vents are stacked to add fuel, and to add water. Any suggestions would be great! Looking forward to using this wite alot> Cook on

That's a valid concern! I'd drill holes in the top - you can use flat magnets to cover them if necessary, but if you don't have good exhaust, you're going to have problems for sure with the quality of the smoke and temp control. I think drilling the holes would be better than cracking the lid, but it might be worth a shot to try cracking the lid & seeing how that goes. It's really important to have good exhaust.

Pics always help.
It may be designed to exhaust through the gap between lid and center/bottom section. If so, you can seal the gap and drill holes in the lid for exhaust. It'll probably need other mods as well to make it closer to "set and forget". Is that what you have?

I considered drilling holes, but wasn't sure if it was excluded by design. And the picture is a pretty close representation of this MECO. Gonna try cracking the lid before I drill...Thanks guys

You can do something like this. The chunk of wood is there to cover exhaust between cooks. I always leave it wide open during cooks.
