Pit Boss 22 Kamado...any good?
Found one for a great price. What’s the scoop on these (especially when buying used)?

I know that kamados aren't the most popular tool for smoking, but I don't remember seeing very many people that regret buying one. I think the Pit Boss is probably very similar to my Vision grill. A solid unit that will hold temps for hours on end. You can use some of the money you save to pick up some cool accessories from the ceramic grill store. If you don't want to mess with learning the temp control for longer cooks you can just grab a temp controller and you will have a set and forget setup that you can do overnight cooks with. I would just inspect the firebox for cracks and any other problems should be pretty obvious.

I had a very similar model by Grilla Grills called the Kong. Overall it was a great kamado and the only issue was the way the dome vent mounts into the dome. It sits in and is held in place by a single bolt and nut...well, when it comes to rotation, that single anchor point allows for too much wiggle room and the vent will often work its way loose. I used some food grade high temp RTV (about $5) to solve the problem, and I've seen others tighten up the vent placement by using a high temp gasket.
Other than the vent "issue" it performed very well and had a ton of cooking area with a small enough footprint.
