Knife brand question

Looks like our old standby Chicago Cutlery set is getting thin from sharpening, and Sue is starting to shop for knives. I told her that you guys know everything about this subject, so she asked me to ask you what you recommend as a cost-effective, durable brand that will keep a keen edge a long time.
