Just remember a food grade barrel will probably have a liner and the liner isn't food grade when it burns. I'd take an unlined motor oil drum over a lined "food grade" drum any day.

The drums that I get are unlined food grade that contained olive or canola oil...fyi. Most of the food grade drums that are lined may have contained a citrus / acid based food product...so it's best to look before you leap.

I picked up a heavy duty barrel that contained a polymer chewing gum additive over a ton that had citrus juice. It was lined but was 20 pounds heavier than the juice barrels.

If you are limited on what you can get, go ahead and get one with a liner. A hot fire and an angle grinder with a knotted wire wheel will take of the liner.

Default SS UDS build

Here are pictures of the SS UDS build. The Westport Wingnut is the guy doing all the work. His favorite statement about me is " Work really must fascinates you! Because you stand aroung and watch it all the time when its being done" We have about 8hrs of work into it and another two to finish.

Wow smokin newbie thats gonna be a sweet drum. You may (or may not) be a smokin newbie, but you look to have a pretty good grasp on the building part!

It has been a while since i got to work on my drum so i haven't made much progress, but that way i always have something to work on!

i did a good grinding, or so i thought, but as you can see i can still see bits of the liner
gotta get back to work on it!
