I may be wrong but I think any team willing to cook the PC isn't going to worry about what they are cooking. The time consumption is dealing with the public. If you do spares and trim to St Louis you could have rib tips to offer as something other than PC and generate more money for the charity.

Were you able to get the ice donated uder the 501C3 charity? Most ice companies will donate as much as a half ton of ice for the tax letter Thats 40 lbs or more per team. Do you have hosing to pipe water to the sites or is it still a lug your own contest? The local ACE hardwares normally are helpful in this aspect.
skip thanks for the input, working on the ice now, in contact with the guy you turned me on to. will work the water situation. Can definitely do spares, was just worried about number of racks folks can cook

We advanced in Sam's, so will be dropping Hartford, however I know several teams that did not advance that expressed an interest going to Hartford now.

Glad I could be of help. I hope the contest is awesome and at the end you want to do it again next year. One thing though you may want to quantify how much ice each team will get free of charge. As well it doesn't hurt to ask teams if they would like to make a donation to recapture in lieu of the cost of ice. Heck if they give you $5 for 40 lbs that's as much as $200 for the charity or funds for the minutia of the event that wasn't there before. It's still for the charity if you use the money in support of the event.

Not sure if Jamie will see this.If any of you have feedback it is appreciated. This is my first People's choice event of this size. I know for KCBS you can't use electricity to hold meats but for PC are we allowed to use a warmer? A lot of meat to prepare, wanted to prep as much as possible and hold. I have only so many coolers, this would make things easier. Sorry for the stupid question but I just want to be covered. Thanks.

For those that didn't attend this year, you missed out on a great contest. The volunteers at Riverfront Recapture did an AMAZING job running this event, especially for it's first year. And a big kudo goes out to Jamie from Bear's Smokehouse for funding the event and for everything he did to make it memorable. I don't think a single guest on Saturday night left that event hungry. As People's Choice meats began to run low, Jamie cleaned out every last ounce of protein from his restaurant to feed the guests. Competitors, judges and guests were all treated like royalty! Thanks for everything and see you next year.

Just want to thank those that came out for the contest. It was a pleasure to meet a bunch of new BBQ folk and we tried to make it as streamlined for the competitors as possible. We will be sending out a survey soon and would love any feedback you have so that we can make next year even better.
