Welcome to the land of the Midnight Sun. We arrived Wednesday to visit some friends and yesterday we had a BBQ . Today begins the midsummer celebration and it is typical to have a BBQ at a cottage. The stores naturally prepare for this event:

We were a bit surprised to find this in the local market.

For the BBQ we had some sausage and some salmon and also some chicken and pork steaks. Finnish and American BBQ styles blend together nicely.

These were some tasty local sausages. Some things don't need translation.

The meal is not complete without potatoes.

These are much tastier than the ones we get, so more potatoes....

We had way too much food for one grill.

While the sausage cooked, our host cooked the salmon.

Mmmmmm, grilled salmon.

While everyone cooked, the girls played

There was plenty of sausage

and it was a lovely time for all.

I think you can use this picture for the Throwdown

What a great looking sausage party! This might be the only time I've ever said that. Careful with that squirrel hanging around. Looks a little familiar. Great job!

It's a squirrel, Al. They all look alike.

Cute kids. I think they look familiar.

Black Cherry Wood is the only Cherry Species I have Smoked with so I don't
have a complete Point of Reference in regards to other Cherry Woods.
Perhaps a more Knowledgeable Brethren will step up and Enlighten us.

I submit to you, Brethren, the traditional South African sausage, Boerewors (farmers sausage). Beef and pork coarsely made with coriander, and eaten anywhere people gather as a boerewors roll. I have included home made tomato and onion relish which is also a staple at a South Afrian braai (aka bbq). Ryan

Well I had some leftover ribs and brisket… Sooo why not shred them up and load it up on a sausage dog topped with some homemade pickled red onions. The sides were left over homemade BBQ beans and some nice onion rings.

Default First ever Throwdown Entry

Having just joined this forum, just learning what a fatty is (despite the text below my name) I decided that I'd smoke a fatty and enter it into the throwdown. I decided that since it was my first fatty, i'd go for the simplest possible recipe and do that. From all I've read so far, to the purists on here a fatty is Jimmy Dean sausage rubbed and smoked. Many will stuff them, and I'm sure I will someday, but for this, I went pure and simple. pron attatched, i'll post a second time with my official entry as I haven't yet figured out how to embed images without attatching them.

Nice lookin sausage, but where is the bacon? Don't think it can be a fatty without bacon weave.

And welcome to the TD. Its a lot of fun, unless you get zero. But then again that lets you into the zero club. Are you throughly confused now?
