Old Weber Find and Questions
I just picked up an older Weber Grill on Craigslist. It has 2 wooden handles, and 3 bottom vents.
Anyone know when this might have been purchased originally, it is amazingly in VERY good condition. It appears to be piece of sheet of metal away from being a gigantic WSM.

The one I have now has the wooden handle... I can't say for sure but I think I bought this one about 1990.

I believe the Weber kettle model with 3-vent wheels on the bottom was
called the Bar-B-Kettle. It came in 18, 22 and 26 inch diameters. Since 1979, Weber has stamped a letter date-code on the upper vent wheels. If there is no letter code, it was built before 1979. Here's the code:

I have rescued 3 or 4 of those from the trash over the last few years. It's the classic Weber... can't go wrong with that bad boy. You can get replacement parts as they wear out and it will live forever. Enjoy!

I'd rather have the daisy vent kettles than a One-Touch anyday! Put a little lube on the bottom vents and keep them happy!
I've got a couple pre-date stamp Bar-B-Q-Kettles with wood handle on the lids and steel on the bowl. Treat them right and they'll last a long time!

I have a 22 1/2 Weber with the wood handles with 3 vents on the bottom and it has to be close to 30 years old, still in very good shape. Used her a BUNCH!! I just bought a new Weber Kettle (also 22 1/2) last weekend but it is the Gold series for $100 at Ace, they had a sale but NOT on grills... But my Mrs. talked them into the discount sale they had for everything else in the store (Gonna have to keep her!!). Now I can use the old kettle for parts on a UDS soon to be built... Finally!! After watchin you farkers build them and the groceries ya'll turn out... I just have to build one for my very own.

Nice find, mines 7 years old and apart from some burns on the wheels is still going strong!
Plenty of life left in the old girl.

My neighbor bout a new performer, and gave me his 1974 vintage Bar-B-Kettle, 2 steel handles on the bowl and a riveted wood handle on the lid.
After using a OTS and a OTG, I prefer the Bar-B-Kettle too.
