The Official 2010 Thanksgiving Turkey Cost Comparison
Since it is that time of year again and Turkey's all over the place are being offered for your TG feast. I thought it would be cool to see the range of pricing per pound the stores are charging. What happening in your area this year?
Tucson AZ, Albertson's Butterball $1.39 per lb, Honeysuckle White .39 lb or .29 lb with $25.00 purchase. I broke down and picked up a 22lb Butterball $30.50 for the oven, because I really like them. I also picked up a 14lb Honeysuckle for the EGG for .29lb about $4.00. May get another couple of these. We have about 25 coming over for dinner.

Looks like the best deal here is $0.58 a pound for jenny-o turkey at wally world. several other places have the same price, but have a minimum purchase requirement. Winn-Dixie has wd turkeys for $0.69. I got my test turkey from Sam's for $0,89. we will see how that one comes out on the WSM before deciding if we are eating smoker cooked bird or my famous oven bird.

We have two attractive deals here, neither as good as last year, but still pretty dang decent. One is Price Chopper has turkeys at $0.69/lb with a $25 store purchase, and the other is at Hy-Vee where you buy a ham at $2.99/lb and get a free turkey.

I got a fresh all natural butter ball at the local grocery store today for $2.29lb. Went to Costco later today to get my peanut oil for the fryer for Thursday and just had to go take a look in the meat department to see what they had. I'll be damned it was $.99 lb for the same bird!

Costco here had Butterballs minimally processed with less than 5% water retained, for $0.99/lb; picked me up a 19 and 13 pounder.

I will pick up my free range, grass fed turkey on Tuesday from the butcher. It's somewhere in the $2.25 per pound range.
It seems like a lot to pay for a turkey, but once you've eaten a turkey that hasn't been frozen and isn't pumped full of chemicals and other stuff you'll never eat a cheap frozen turkey again.

Publix has Butterballs for 59 cents a pound. Sweet Bay and their brand for 30 cents a pound. I ordered a 12 pound free range, all natural bird, free range bird from a local farmer also. Pick it up as soon as they ring it's neck and pull the feathers on Wednesday.

Well, there's the free turkey my wife gets from the supermarket for spending $300 or more over the last month. :)
I go for the cheap and enhanced birds from Super Walmart. These were from last week. |

In Michigan the best deal I found (and I didnt look to hard) was .49/lb with an additional $10.00 purchase at Krogers.
Went the all natural route the last few years and didnt see a big enough difference to pay $2.00 more per pound...
