Default New lid design on XL BGE

Hey all, I was wondering what everyone knows about the lid redesign on the XL BGE.

Would you wait for the new one?
When is it supposed to arrive?
Will it increase capacity by a large amount?
Will a price increase follow?

I was about to pull the trigger on one but now I am wondering if I should wait for the new model.

Any thoughts or info would be appreciated.
Have a good one and thanks.

I know that the new dome will be a little taller. The XL bge has a pretty good capacity now,but the new lid will really help with taller cooks(like vertical chickens and turkeys).I have an older style XL and haven't had any problems with capacity. Here's a couple pics of 6 Boston butts on the XL(which I have done a few times without issue),but I've seen people cook 8 or more .If you wait, you won't have it now.It will prolly take a while for BGE to sell out all the older ones, before they allow the new ones to be sold.Either way, you'll be happy with the egg

The new XL egg only has a taller dome,so the sqr inches won't change, just the cubic inches.

It should be available later this year, but it depends on how fast the "old stock" sells out.I would guess this summer, but some dealers may take longer to deplete their inventory

Thanks Sparky, you make a pretty good case for plenty of capacity! That works for me.

I wonder when you could buy one of the new ones from the mothership though?

With the current lid, you can get about 750sq in with a flip ring. It adds a 21.5 in grate. With the higher dome there is the possibility to double the 452sq in the XL has with another 24in grate.
