There are a bunch of ways to go about this...cook for the volunteers that work at your local food bank. Cook for a church gathering, etc. If you get creative, it will work out.

I did that. I picked up a job that lets me work pretty much whenever I want evenings and weekends. I'll pull a couple of weekend shifts prior to a comp to pay for the meat and expenses. That way, the funds don't come out of the family budget.
