Seven Fires book
I just bought the book Seven Fires - Grilling the Argentine Way by Francis Mallman. Wow, what a nice book. Very cool photography, story telling and some neat recipe ideas. The whole book is about cooking over fire and it has given me a ton of new ideas. I am a meat and potatoes guy who likes to dabble in some "fancy" recipes. This book does not have hard to find ingredients for the most part. Seems like stuff the whole family will love.
There is one recipe for roasting a whole cow. That may be a little out of my league, but overall the book looks great. I read it cover to cover tonight. I am also planning on building a parilla at our cabin this summer, and this inspired me to get those plans going. Anyone else read this book? I want to visit Argentina now! |

I haven't read it, but thanks for the recommendation for it.
I'll check it out and maybe buy a copy for my library. |

I got it for Christmas and love it, although I really haven't had a chance to give the recipes a go yet. I am excited to do so in the coming weeks.

Fantastic book. Mallmann is definitely one of the best and it shows in this book. I love that he says he "got tired of cooking French food for wealthy customers in Buenos Aires" and returned to the language of his mother tongue:fire. Good stuff.

If anybody writes a book about cooking with fire and one of the recipes starts out "1 medium cow, about 1400 pounds, butterflied, skin removed". Youve got my freakin attention!!!

I've been trying not to buy this book over the past day or so, but I have a feeling I'm gonna fail.

Well, the good news is that there are enough brethren in the SoCal area that we can probably all go in on a 1,400 lb. cow...

Was just poking around and saw a place selling whole grass fed beef for $5 per lb. I am sure grain fed beef is even cheaper.
