what a tuff field...congrats to all who walked..

as far as the judges...was there a lot of competitors judging? I know I make a HORRIBLE judge...
 
Rumor has it a lot of the judges were first timers...

The judging was a little erratic, but it was that way for everyone i guess.

After over 100 contests I have cooked, i finally was able to achieve a score of a 4. Also got 2 5's. One for appearance. While 2 others scored the same box 999. :becky:

Congrats to all that advanced and had their name called. Great seeing all my GLBBQA brothers...

Are these Sams contests using a lot of employee's/customers/managers or something? Heard the "lots of first time judges" about more than one of these events.

Not sure where there getting 100% CBJ's but i think i know most of the Michigan CBJ's and only recognized 3 out of 30 in the tent. :roll:

The girls were busy tagging. I am sure there will be a few surprises for some....
 
yup - our trailer got tagged - noticed it while getting gas on the way home - nice one Scottie - LOL!

The judging was VERY brutal - happy to have gotten the chicken call, but was puzzled by the judging overall. Was a fun contest though, great neighbors, beautiful area!
 
Congrats to all the Brethren who took a walk in Traverse and those moving on to Indy! Big shout out to my man Rich Parker for the RGC.
 
Congrats to those who made it through. It was a fun event despite the rain and a few hiccups in our site.
 
AS to low scores I had a 170 chicken that took 1st place. I think it's my lowest 1st call ever. Pork and Brisket didn't make 170 and can't remember ribs.

Like Baton Rouge very consistent. Some things are a little different, power can be an issue anywhere. I understand them wanting to park people so we face out and in line so it's easy to pull out.

Wish they didn't remove the porta potty's starting a 5:00. Pump out smell at BR was terrible and beside us. In TC wanted t o use them before we left a 5:40 and they were already gone. But again I understand they want to use the parking lot and gas stations are available as well.

To those still waiting to compete at a SAMS event you will find it's every well planned out.

Congrats to the 7 that qualified. I'd be very surprised if all 7 don't go. And I'll be very surprised if the 8 & 9 spots make it from this one with the scores we got.
 
Even though we made it through. I think the judges were very eradic. Scores were all over the place. My ribs sucked & felt lucky to get 15th with them. The other 3 I thought I nailed. But still ended up with a total of 4 5's on my score sheet on the others. But like Scottie I've learned to take it with a grain of salt. Learn what you can by the scores & try not to let the screwy judges throw you off your game!!
