That was a great story, and a great hunt! One of these days I will get out to the midwest or the rockies to get a muley or elk. I really dont care if its only a cow tag, I wanna get an elk.

There were plenty around. We had them bugling all night around us. It actually became quite annoying. My buddy saw a monster 6 by 6 80 yards from him. Sadly, they weren't in season and we didn't have a tag.

Brings back some great memories! We used to hunt out of Creede Co. years ago in the San Juan mountains. Great times, and just like you said, the harvesting of a deer is just Icing on the cake. The hunt and the scenery, and the hard work is the real "Trophy". How can people look at the things you saw and photographed and not believe there is a GOD! Awesome adventure and thanks for sharing those memories with us all.

Great story and pics! Health issues keep me from being out there now but I so envy you, even with your aching knees. Truly 'Gods Country.' We have such a beautiful country, why anyone would need to hike Iran with all we have here is beyond be.
Man am I jealous. You never miss your water until your well runs dry.

How very true. I believe we hiked up some 28 bottles of water plus the water in the bladders in our packs that was left after the hike. We did good on conserving it as best we could but with the heat, it was difficult. I was never more thirsty than when I new we were almost out and I needed to really conserve.

Great story. Really made me feel like i was there.

All my deer hunting has been flat-lander stuff (Texas & Arkansas) and at most we might have to drag a deer 20-30 yards to the truck. Not sure my fat bod & old knees could handle that mountain stuff.

Brad, that was one helluva share! Congrats and hitting that animal from 280 yds from that sort of elevation shows some real skill.
You sir, are what hunting is all about. No tree stand for you. ;)

I loved this line:

the trophy in this hunt was in the effort.

I'm still laughing at that one.

Seriously though... too much work, as your knees obviously, told you.
