Went To Costco To Buy Vision Komado - What I Saw Changed My Mind
So our Costco has the Vision Kamado grill on clearance for only $399.97 which is an AMAZING price of course. We went to Costco with money in hand ready to buy and sure enough, they still had a few left at that price.
However, we decided against buying it based on the unit on the sales floor. Now I know that sales floor units get beat up a ton but I had just gotten done looking at BGE demo models that get beat up a lot also. In terms of the Costco Vision Komado, I was very disappointed in the quality. There was already major chipping on both the outside top of the grill and even the inside as well. (various spots). The BGE had no chipping. In addition, opening and closing the Vision lid did not seem anywhere near as sturdy as doing so on the BGE. Lastly, the wheels/cart on the Vision were much more flimsy than the BGE's. I really wanted to buy the Vision Komado but just couldn't pull the trigger because of what I mentioned above. At the same time, it's about $1,000 for a comparable BGE and I don't see spending that right now either so I think I'll hold off on a ceramic cooker purchase. When I do pull the trigger, it will be a BGE. |

I did the same thing a week ago. I was going to buy one for my brother for a house-warming gift. I spent about 5 minutes with it and decided against it. The floor model was in good shape, but it just felt flimsy.

Same thing happened to me here in Australia. Went in to local Costco where the Vision is around $600 AUD. Wasn't really impressed with the floor model, the felt was really worn and ratty looking, and the lid opening didn't feel very secure.
My other half basically veto'd the spending, however ended up going to the Kamado Joe supplier and lay buying one for $1,000 AUD (with seal of approval from the lady) which now has it's new home in my backyard and has done it's first run of wings and burgers! Overall couldn't be happier with the purchase, even though it was nearly twice as much. |

$400 vs $1000 I would say its not real fair to compare the 2. Camaros are slower than Corvettes also........

You did the right thing. I bought a Brinkman POS at home depot last year, this year i bought a Yoder and my lawn care guy has a free POS in his yard. So i paid more in the long run. Buy nice or buy twice.

Is there a comparable cooker in the 400$ price range? I couldn't find one and built a uds.

Just out of curiosity, have you looked at the Grill Dome? The XXL has a 22 inch cooking grate. I was gonna get the Vision also, buti hate rolling my ribs or cutting them in half to cook them.
