I have seen pits with this large smoker box in the back before. How exactly does it work is it the same as a warmer box?

If you're talking about my smoker, that is a charcoal grill on the back. Completely separated from the smoker.

. They do make a model that has a warming box above the firebox but I am not sure how the set up is on it. The one we have is a charcoal grill totally independent from the smoker.
