8 hrs until dinner time... What to make on a Snowy day????? Any Ideas?

Any form of chili. Whether it is brisket chili, chucksteak chili, pulled pork chili. Nothing warms you up on a cold day than some whiskey and/or chili

Was thinking chilli.... looking for some different ideas besides the usual...

I'm in same winter mess as you, and again like you looking for something other than chili.

I plan on making some beef bone broth in the pressure cooker a bit latter today, so I trying to think of a way to use that in tonight's dinner.

A couple ideas so far:
French Onion Soup
Beef Stroganoff

Went to Walmart because i didnt feel like driving 30 miles in the snow and ice today to goto Costco... Wandering through the meat isle.. i saw a "Prime Rib Roast" hummm since when did walmart start selling "Prime" rib... after further inspection it was labled "Choice" none the less for 5.98/lb is it worth it??? So i decided to get one got a 5lb boness rib roast... picked up some frozen u12 shrimp and some onion and portabella mushrooms... $40 for the whole thing... now the question becomes how good is the meat.

Has anyone had this "Prime Rib" from Walmart?

I've never had prime rib from Walmart. However I've never had prime rib that wasn't good.

Brazilian food: Feijoada, steak, tomato relish, farofa, rice.

Never had there prime rib. I've got Bambi stew going into the oven for dinner with home made fresh white bread.

Only a dusting up here so far..

Can you tell me where i can get some Hawaiian Sea salt that had some herbs in it. my buddy in the navy was from the big island and had brought some with him we put it on steaks and WOW it was amazing... came in a light green bottle. not sure who made it but i have been looking for it for the paast ten years if i see the label i would know it.. maybe you have some idea of what i an talking about.

We take our salts pretty seriously here. The red alaea salt is what we use for steaks. Its sea salt dried on red clay. Usually use em for grilling or pig (season before cooking otherwise the Alaea will taste a little raw). Gives an earthy and sweeter flavor. Otherwise for general use we go with white coarse sea salt but that can get bitter on direct grill but good for table use after cooking. I know trader joe sells some, but too unorthodox for my taste, they make a black "Hawaiian" salt blended with charcoal? Yuck. If you want some Alaea salt just let me know.

Big pot of chili simmering on the stove for supper here. P.S. Freezing rain has arrived here. Excellent choice wife and guest said.

Ye, i was gunna go chili but, that rib roast kinda got my attention... just to see...

The Snow is a coming.... been snowing for 8hrs now...

Keep that snow out your way please.
You should be fine with a choice rib roast.

I was going to suggest a big breakfase dinner - pancakes or waffels, bacon or sausage... was a real treat growing up when we had breakfast for dinner... something warm and comforting about it.

No snow here, but thinking of grilling a couple pizzas for the first time, over a wood fire. Why not? Happy Sunday all :-D

We are going from 70 degrees this morning, to 30 degrees tonight. That will be our first freeze.

So, I will probably make some homemade beef and veggie soup this week. Cheap beef, red potatoes, celery, onions, bell peppers, mushrooms, beef broth and red wine -- k-salt and pepper to taste.

I wouldn't suggest using that rib roast for this, but you should have a couple more snowy days this winter up there.

I was in the Portage walmart wednesday nite and they had those prime rib roasts out the with Cristmas bows on them so I would assume it is a seasonal product for them. I know I usually only see that in the grocery stores around the holidays. I have a 9 lb. pork butt and 2 st. louis racks in the UDS right now and I have 6 chicken thighs marinading also. We have a bit over an inch wet snow on the ground north of you.
