Default smoking a roast?

I am smoking a roast. My thermometer says the internal temp should be 170. This is my first roast. To what temp. do you smoke your roast. I am fairly new to the site.

I just did a home grown roast for the 4th and I took mine to 190 or so. I had a nice bark and very tender and moist.
