I TIVOed Bammaque when it first aired on Food TV a few months back and watched it for the first time today. I feel in very good company and couldn't believe my eyes when Chris Lilly DQed for missing the turn in for Brisket. It ultimately cost him Grand Champion. I have to say I have alot of respect for him because he publically blamed nobody but himself.

Chris is a great guy. The part you didn't see on the show was Chris stopped to talked to a camera crew, even showing them his brisket presentation, on the way to turn in his brisket. Had he just gone on in, he'd have made it. As for missing GC, that's a major assumption considering the ultimate winner was called in all four categories. It was a very good show by the way . . .

Under those circumstances it's even more of a shame he got DQed. It appeared that if Chris had scored well in Brisket he would have had enough points for Grand Champion. Thats how it appeared to me, I could be wrong, but we will never know.

Chris appears to be a great spokesperson for the world of BBQ along with a few others. It also appears that some of our fellow brethern are becoming very good spokespersons as well!!

The thing about late turn-ins is that it is always the competitor's fault!!

Unless a KCBS rep holds you at gunpoint you cannot, ever, come up with a valid reason for being late. It is one of the inviolate rules...if they ever made an exception then the rule would become useless.

I realize there are a mirade of reasons you can be late. Misread the clock, dropped the box, cut your finger off prepping, etc. But, the bottom line is that you are either on time or you are late. No excuse, no matter how funny, bizzare, violent, painfull, or psycho can be accepted.

OK, off my soapbox. Late turn-ins are real bummers. Mr. Lily is a class act.
