The finished article... "Thar she Smokes!!!" Two barrel, lid conversion. Dual layer with bored out washing machine drum for grate. So far we've smoked several Chickens, two Butts, and a whole lot of Ribs. Ribs are by far the winner - I've got them d-own... I'm holding a wallpapering brush which I find invaluable for applying the correct amount of sop ! Yeeee-haaaw

Looks good, I'd like to see a little more on how the second barrel fits on the first and what mods you had to do to the bottom barrel.
Thanks Jim

This is my 30 gal that's been cleaned up with CLR to get the surface rust off the outside than buffed out and clear coat applied. With the crazyness of life right now it's gonna be a long build but I'm go an try to create a build thread for the mini's.
Anyone who has a 30 and has some input as to sizes and heights on everything please chime in or message me.

I'm going in!
Gonna go pick up a 55 Gal Drum to build my first smoker.
First question (of many I am sure) ~ Is getting a stainless steel drum worth the $$$??? |

I decided to try the spray on stripper on my latest UDS build. It is a food grade drum with a dark brown liner.
It took off 90% of the paint with one coat but didn't react with the liner. After a couple burns with a weed burner and two more coats of the stripper I was able to get most of the liner off. Cheers! |

I like the no weld option on your basket. I have a question for you: Are you going to connect the expanded metal assembly to the grate and catcher or is this bad boy ready to go? Here is mine. I suck at painting, but it's supposed to be a UGLY Drum Smoker.

I love the Bat logo - ugly be damned! The smoker's been operating each weekend for the last 3. I've done a fatty and ABTs first and 2 rib cooks on it. The temp control is great and I'm feeling guilty with my weber kettle sitting idle. The expanded mesh is attached to the grate with stainless steel cable ties - it was an idea I saw here on the forum. |
