I know Lumberjack, Bear Mountain and Cookinpellts are often considered the best, but has anyone tried camp chef pellets? I got a new camp chef pellet smoker and the stickers on it say to only use camp chef pellets but I’m not sure how strict they are on that when it comes to the warranty. They advertise being low ash which is important to me because so far I’ve only done the burn in, but I used traeger pellets and it seems like inside of the smoker is dusted in ash. Also, how are the charwood pellets? Thanks for any insight you might have!
 
In my experience pellets that produce little ash produce less smoke flavor and pellets that produce more ash produce more smoke flavor. I'm pretty much using nothing but Lumberjack hickory now, and I definitely get more ash. But the flavor is better so I don't mind the ash.*

I don't know why Camp Chef would tell you to use nothing but their own pellets. Makes not sense.

*I also have a pellet cooker with an ash clean out door, so I find ash issues less bothersome than I would if I had to take my unit apart for ash removal.
 
Camp Chef tells you to use their pellets to sell more pellets and make more money. I have used a bag of their hickory pellets and they are good pellets but I still prefer LumberJack 100% hickory.
 
I didn't like them. Didn't seem to have much smell or taste to them. They were a very consistent size but looked like they had been damp. I've got some Bear Mountain waiting to be used next time I cook something. They're probably the last brand I try.
 
I’m new to the pellet game but I’ve been pleased with CookinPellets hickory and cherry. Had a bag of B&B championship blend that was good. Thinking of trying it again. What do y’all think about B&B?

Thanks for the feedback! For those who use cookinpellets and bear mountain, how is the level of ash compared to other brands? My camp chef has an ash dump, so I’m not too worried about cleaning it, but the presence of either ash or pellet dust in the cook chamber has me a little concerned. Will that probably go away once I cook in it and get it dirty?

You said you tried the B&B pellets. I have been told those are just a re labeled product of BBQ Delight pellets which has been a staple of competition BBQ teams that use pellet cookers.

I have only used in the few short weeks I have had the Traeger;
Traeger pellets and Weber pellets.
 
I'd only be concerned about ash if it was a Weber Dumpster-Fire.
 
I have never been too concerned with ash more so flavor. I have not tried camp chef nor Traeger but, pretty much all others. With all big ones, Cookin, Bear Mt, Lumber Jack...I have been happy. I am sticking with Smoke Ring now because it produces good end product, all what it says no filler or oils, made in MI, a store not too far and price $20ish for 40lbs.

If bbq delight pellets get used for competition, why don’t more people use them at home?

1. Pellets that produce more ash produce more flavor.

2. Pellet cookers that produce more ash produce more flavor.

3. A pellet cooker that produces more ash combined with pellets that produce more ash yields the most flavor.
