Hello brothers in smoke,

I competed this weekend at the Pacific, Mo contest. This was first time for the event organizers and they did a great job. They have some room to improve but what contest doesn't? I would definitely go back next year if they have another one. They took suggestions from the competitors and had the little things that make a contest great. The spaces were a very good size with electricity anywhere you needed and water from a buffalo but they took your containers and filled them for you. Every 15 minutes someone was by to ask if you needed anything and our garbage can in front of the space never got over 1/2 full. Kudos to Jim Thomure and his team that put the contest together. Hopefully next year some of the Brethren will come and make it even better.

OBTW, took 5th in brisket....yahoo

Congrats are in order for you and your team.

Congrats... Pacific is a great town to me... My grandparents live outside Catawissa all through my childhood, then moved closer to Robertsville, with a 7 acre lake... Love that part of the state!

thanks everyone, Curt I read your summary of Madison. We did that as our first contest last year. I thought it was a well run event. I share your views on the judging. Pacific was the same way, i could see it in the scores. I am not positive that everyone was a CBJ. But I cannot look a gift horse in the mouth because a walk is a walk no matter how you slice it.

Kevin, judging is judging. I had a good talk with one of the reps that were at the GR comp... he said something about not worrying about the judging there, and I said, but I got a 5th in brisket! I actually think that it wasn't that bad, as the same teams were at the top that are always at the top. And it's all part of the game.
