Default Crockpot Smoker???

My coworker received this as a Christmas present:
oster smoker/roaster

It looks like a large roaster oven, but it has cartridges on each side for wood chips to create smoke and a Weber-style daisy wheel in the lid.

So, what's everyone's opinion? We already had the debate about whether it was a "true" smoker, or if it would produce results similar to a crock pot.

He has only used it once for a pork loin...

Pretty much purists here. Dont think you will get a lot of support.

If you use it inside, where does all the smoke go? That would be my biggest concern.

So, how do you get away from the wife, to drink beer in the backyard if you use one of those things?

Sorry, it ain't BBQ if you can do it while you help the wife clean the house on a Sunday afternoon.

I tried to convince him that the results would be similar to a crockpot, not true smoked.

I think it is intended for outdoor use.

Not much different than any other electric smoker. He should get decent results but it won't be as good as real Q.

It will work once you get to know it's idiosyncrasies. It will make a great meal that a family would love. Will it be outside pit Q? No...but it will be good.
