Help me hook a friend

I'm down in Austin this week for work, and a colleague/buddy of mine loves to do BBQ. I've been yapping him up about the NEBS/KCBS stuff that I do, and I can see that twinkle in his eye (although he won't admit it).

Other than KCBS, what would be the right sanctioning body to try and steer (heh) him towards? CTBA? Not sure. Thanks in advance!

In the Austin area? There are some IBCA competitions around there - there's one in the DFW area this weekend. I think LSBS (Lone Star Barbecue Society) might have a few around there as well. Haven't heard much about CTBA on this side of the Sabine, but then again hubby won a T-shirt with their logo on it as a door prize...

Yeah he's in the Austin area. Want to point him towards something more backyard now that I read the replies. He says he doesnt have the time or funds. Sound familiar??
