Default Great Holiday Appetizer Ideas

Looking for new and tasty Christmas appetizers.

Preferably something a little less fatty than "Moinks"
or fatties

If meat is involved, I want it as a garnish (like sprinkled with bacon instead of wrapped
in bacon...otherwise), everyone gets filled up on the appetizers before the main courses come out.

Here is one of my new favorites.

Get a baguette and slice into thin slices on the bias, brush with olive oil or butter and bake until lightly golden. (basically toast points)

Spread a high quality jam or preserve on the toast. I think fig and blueberry go well here.

Then place a slice of prosciutto over the jam. ( Spend a little extra and get a good Italian one.)

Then crumble some gorganzola or what ever your favorite creamy blue cheese is on top.

Finish with a touch of salt and pepper and a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil.

Enjoy

You almost read my mind, and I was going to post the same thing, but mine is a variation.

I slice the bread thin and bake with olive oil

I use wild cranberry sauce and spread it thin.

Instead of meat I use caramelized onions (good vegetarian dish)

And then top with any nice crumbly cheese. They sell some good ones at trader Joes.

I am going with a nice side of Smoked Asian glazed Salmon. With crackers and smoked cheese.

I like some sort of a cracker (water crackers work nice) cream cheese and topped with some home made blackberry or peach habenero jelly.

I make toast points and serve with Fig jam and soft goat cheese. I like the idea of making an onion or tomato jam though.

Here's another that's pretty easy.

Spinach Puffs

Chopped Frozen spinach package, thawed
1/2 cup crumbled feta
1/4 cup minced onion or shallot
1 TBSP Olive Oil
tsp minced garlic
salt, pepper
2 eggs
1 sheet puff pastry

Wring out the water in the spinach and mix the onion, oil, garlic, salt, pepper together. Whisk and egg and fold into the mixture. Cut your puff into strips so you get 3x3 inch squares. Place each square in the muffin tin and then add in filling. Then fold the corners to the middle of the muffin so the 4 corners meet. Take the other egg and whisk with a touch of water and brush on the top of the puff. Then bake for 25 min at 400 degrees.

You could obviously replace the filling with about anything else, cheese, pepperoni and pizza sauce. Mexican fillings, whatever.
