It works great, I am proud to own one of the Norco design brand...

I still had the redneck build bookmarked on my desktop.

Are you really 6'9"? If so I can certainly see why you would want to have a riser on your air inlets. I can get away with just using magnets on the holes as I am about 12" closer to them than you will be! Remember as you build, pics are mandatory on this site... No pics, it didn't happen

Just another suggestion, notice on the pic of Norco's charcoal basket that the orientation of his expanded metal has it running the "long" way for the bend. Try doing it the other way, it will bend much easier and for my baskets I use 1/2 vs. 3/4 and they were real easy to bend and bolt to a bottom made of 3/4 for strength... His will probably last longer but I'm pretty lazy

Yes, I'm really 6'9" tall. I think I may have came up with my own design for a charcoal basket. I will post pics as soon as I start working on it.

At 6'9" you might want to consider a build like I did. I cut the bottom out and made a ash pan and it sits on the stand. Very easy to fill the basket, start the fire, just hit it with the weed burner then set the drum over the top. And very easy to clean up the ashes. Mine was on 8" legs which I have shortened down to 4", but for you the 8" would be good and the food would be a bit higher, not so much bending over for you.

Just some thoughts.

Some use eyebolts instead of bolts to support grate.

Yep I used eyebolts for my first one then used these for my second one. And a pic of what I use for the intakes and my 2" exhaust stack.
