Default Mango Wood

I live in Jamaica and do a fair amount of backyard smoking in my free time.
Can anyone give some advice regarding the use of fruit wood - (specifically mango wood).
I have read that it is a relative to the poison ivy family, but is still used by others all the same. I don't want to be getting my friends sick.
Is this a safe wood to use? If it is safe to use, what would it be best for - poultry, pork, beef or fish?

Advice on other fruit woods to use is greatly appreciated as well.

Thanks for the help!

Citrus woods, like orange are great.
I've not heard of a fruit wood that was bad..
I have not tried mango wood.

When I was in Jamaica I asked the Jerk joint I was at what kinda wood he was using and he gave me a puzzled look.
He was using some locally produced lump.

Based on the info in this link I wouldn't use mango wood.

I have two mango trees in my yard and the sap seems to irritate my skin. I have never tried to cook with it but do not think it would be a good idea. But that is just my opinion.

Potato and Tomato plants are related to the deadly poisonous nightshade family, but they are not poisonous...

When I was in Barbados the lump was locally made from mango and no ever one gets ill.

Being in the Caribbean you should have lots of exotic woods to chose from, guava, and rambutan.

Being I used only mango charcoal but not seasoned wood, so I can't give you any direction. luv2smoke's link says it's a no go for BBQ.
If it were me; I would cook something for my mother-in-law and see how things go... LOL (just kidding) I wouldn't use it.

LOL no I can't test with the mother-in-law so I'll just stick to getting guava wood!
Guava is good for all meat types or is it better for certain type of meat?

Thanks guys!

I've never used it but based on some reading Guava wood sounds like a pretty good all around wood used for all meats.

Mango is good for wood work, not so much BBQ in my experience.
