Default Thermometer Accuracy

I have several thermometers and while they all give pretty accurate readings at 212° under boiling water their readings at higher temps vary by as much as 75°.
These higher temp readings were all taken at a point 3" down one of the vent holes in a Weber kettle.
Are these variances normal? I would hope not.

Tel-Tru 750F therm with 5" stem: 400
identical Tel-Tru therm as above: 390
Maverick ET-73: 392
Tel-Tru 500F smoker therm 3" stem: 350
Generic 550F smoker w/ 3" stem: 325
DCN 700F therm w/ 4" stem: 345
