What canned chicken can are people using with the SJS to prevent ash build up problems? Is there a certain brand that has the right size can?

Built this Labor Day weekend and did my first cook on it last Friday (naked fatty). I still need to add the long bolt to the bottom vent control as I burnt the crap out of my finger trying to adjust it.
I pulled the fatty around 1-1/2 hours in and let it go to see how long it would burn for but the rains came and things got ugly. Before that though, I got a steady 240-260 for about 4 hours. There was still quite a few briqs left. The end result... Tasted great! Had it for breakfast a couple of time. I think I'm going to try corned beef on it next weekend. |

How did your build turn out? I had a hard time finding the proper pot for mine, but the restaurant supply store near me was supposed to have a thick aluminum pot in stock. But I just ordered the Vasconia pot from Amazon, ($35, and only $45 to ship it to Canada).
I was concerned the thicker material may have been too thick to allow the grate to fit inside. Wouldn't mind seeing pics of how yours turned out. Especially with the Craycort grill. Quote:

Finally put mine together last night.
No heat sink/clay saucer. I just used the strainer and drilled smaller holes in the bottom of the pot. Held a temp at 225 for 6 plus hours before reloading. Here's the results:

Howdy All;
Getting set to move South for the Winter... For those of you that mentioned your courious about the thicker pot... I have a 1/8" on each side of the regular SJ cooking grates so the bolt heads are on the inside with a thin washer for the grates to rest upon. The Craycort Grill set-up consists of a ring that holds 2 halves of the grate. The ring itself will fit to the bottom minus about an inch. I choose to NOT use it as I'm not sure how much it will expand so it sit on the bench while the 2 halves work and just fit just fine in the bottom of the pot. Not having a camera and being the owner of the World's dumbest phone (on purpose, don't need the extra charges), .... handicaps me so I hope that my written explanations suffice if not ask questions and I'll try to answer so the fog lifts... hank |

getting ready to build mine tomorrow. Are you all using stainless steel hardware for the grate holders? If so, does HD have SS hardware? Also, are there other step by steps other than the virtualweberbullet site?
Thanks
