I bought a cheap set of 4 stainless steel stock pots today for 20
bucks (20, 16, 12 and 8 gallon). I am thinking about
drilling/cutting some holes in one to experiment with it as
a 'charcoal basket'. I couldn't pass these things up and feel this
could be a good solution for me. Has anyone tried anything like this
or have any success/failure stories? Please let me know.

Thanks,

OB

Ingenuity at its finest.

At least you can experiment with placement of the holes but danged if I don't think they'd be too big (even the 8 gal) for a charcoal basket.

What they hey? You may be working up the next "must have" modification.

Whew! I was thinking you were gonna cut that big bad boy down -- cutting off stainless is a bitch!! However, 8 qts makes sense.

You will, of course, provide us all with the afteraction reaport :D

Any recommendations on cutting/drilling holes in this sucker. I guess I have some crappy drill bits b/c I could not get them to penetrate the pan bottom. I didn't try the pot's side because it is a bit softer metal and I thought I'd try from the bottom. I am probably heading to HD to buy some cobalt tipped bits and try to drill pilot holes.
