Default Sending sauce samples

I have a few bottles of commercial sauce, and I'd like to send some samples to my teammate that lives several hours away, which means it will have to go through the mail. These bottles of sauce are already opened, and say "refrigerate after opening" on the bottle. Ketchup also says that, though, and I see plenty of restaurants leave both BBQ sauce and ketchup out. Question -- can I send my friend small samples of sauce from an open bottle, not refrigerated, and will it spoil in transit? I just want him to try some; I'd hate for him to buy several bottles of sauce just to sample. Thanks.

Erik

Hmmm, White Dog. Lots of people looking, no answers, huh?

Here is my take. I would not want to take a chance of shipping open samples through the mail anyway except priority. That is because you can't depend on prompt delivery, or know how the mail was handled, as to high temps etc.
Therefore the only way I would do it would be Express mail, which is expensive. Probabaly just as cost effective, and safer, to just let your team-mate buy the stuff in his home town. Unless it is awful, it can be used, somehow, so is not a complete waste.

Just my .02

Yeah, I think this makes sense. He's only 4 hours away so maybe we can meet halfway one weekend and trade samples. Thanks guys.

Our local Meijer carries it I think.

Maybe.

But the point was the cost. Buying dry ice, packing the samples safely, shipping priority mail; it most likely will cost more than just having the team-mate on the other end buy his own bottles to taste.

The plan to meet in the middle is good. I thought of it, but did not know how much distance there was between the participants.

Yeah, dry ice won't be happening. Don't you need to specially mark the package and pay extra due to hazardous materials?

He's 4 hours away, so I may just meet him for lunch some time and trade samples. Thanks everyone for the ideas.
