My sister and her family are headed to Oklahoma City in a couple or so weeks, and she was asking where in OKC is a good place to stay. Mostly, she is worried about a safe place for the kids.

Ultimately, we are headed to Lindsay, OK. But, we are thinking OKC or Norman seem like good places to stay.

Any ideas or advice is welcome.

The South side of OKC is pretty suburban. Moore, Norman -- they are both pretty much average American suburbs. Any hotel along I-35 in Moore or Norman should be okay, and not far from Lindsay. There are some cool places to stay in OKC, but there are also some not so cool places to stay. For a family with kids, not wanting to "experience" the city, I'd recommend the burbs -- Moore or Norman, which are also close to Lindsay.

My sister mentioned Norman.

Also, is there any "do not miss" food or places in OKC and surrounds? Doesn't need to be BBQ.

Cattleman's Steakhouse is heavily mentioned on Food shows. I have not been there, so I don't know if the food matches the hype. http://www.cattlemensrestaurant.com

Otherwise, the Southern burbs of OKC are like most burbs -- Applebees, Outback, and all the other chain eateries.

As many times as I have been to OKC, I just haven't been there long enough to do any serious food finding. I'm usually there on business, and I go there, do my work, and go home.

I wish I had a better answer for you.

No problems CD, thanks for the input. Highly likely we will stay in Norman, so there is that.

Has to be some good chicken fried steak or fried okra out there.

If you are that close, come on down to Dallas and I'll hook you up with some good CFS and Tex-Mex.

If you are going to be that close to me, I'd love to see if we can meet up for a bite to eat. A drive to Norman for me is a pretty easy few hours. I do it on a regular basis. We have brethren who live around OKC. I see a mini-bash in the making.

I am not sure about my freedom of movement, after all, I am coming there for a Memorial Service. But, if there is any way I can meet Brethren and you, you and other Brethren? I am in.

If she wants to stay in Oklahoma City, the south side of I40 on Meridian has some decent places.

edited to add... Bricktown too.

Yup, Bricktown is a fun place to wander around in. Good nightlife, too.
I agree with the others about where to stay.
Food? Definitely Cattlemen's. For Q, have her go to Leo's and/or Bedlam BBQ. There are others which have good reputations, but I can't vouch for them.
For kidly entertainment there's Frontier City (amusement park) and lots of movie theaters.

Thanks Arlin, I am hoping to build up some options for doing stuff, than just hanging with the BIL's family. Cattlemen's, gotta remember that

I'll drop some more ideas as I think of 'em. How old are the kids?

Thanks again.

The kids are a 17 year old boy and a 12 year old girl. Both of which, for some reason, I have offered to be locked in a van with for 20 hours. Boy wants to go see Arizona State and UO, he seems to think he will be playing baseball in college.

I ate at Leo's last year. I think I got the brisket on a "miss" day, but everything else was good - I had smoked bologna and I think my lovely wife got spares. They have free cake! I think I recall having some kind of really good side dish, but I can't remember what it was.

Wow, that must have been a miss...sorry, bro.
Did you have greens? They're right fine.
