Hi Guys and Gals,

Pretty new here and decided to build my own smoker, and today we did a test run. Need to finish up with handles and a little better venting but heres some pic's of what we got so far. I started by using an old safe made from 1/4" plate and some stuff my buddy had laying around. Also needs a paint job too but after we sandblast it clean. I'd appreciate any comments or helpful hints. Thanks Bill

diggin the diamond plate. Looks like it is similar to the bandera. You might want to check out that sticky thread in q-talk. One thing that sticks out right away is the lack of a baffle going from the firebox to the cooking chamber. You're on teh right track though! Lookin good!

Thanks Nate I just checked out the Bandera sticky, and added both fire brick and a baffle to my list!

very cool! aside from what was already said, you may want to take a weed burner to those grates. They look like refrigerator grates but it's hard to tell. Are you sure they aren't the dreaded galvanized?
