I'll check it out, thanks! The weber cubes are cheap, but I'm an impatient farker. So I like to start my fires with 2 of em, heck sometimes 3.

You can probably get saw dust free at any lumber yard or home improvement store that cuts wood for their customers.
But, I use a paper towel soaked in some canola oil and it works great!

You have to be careful with candle wax. The good stuff is beeswax, not paraffin wax. You have to read the label to be sure what you are buying. Beeswax is fantastic for candles, terrible for fire starters.

Seems like everyone gave you the info you need. My neighbor is a wood worker and i go fill up a garbage bag full of sawdust and he thanks me for taking it off his hands. The parrafin wax i use i get is the same you can with. Im out right.now and dont remember the brand. Between my four kids and my sisters three we go through enough eggs that im never short or egg cartons. I can make dozens of them and not feel guilty about being impatient and using 2 or 3 to get my fire going. Just be careful melting it. I do it outside on my gasser in a coffee can. It is flammable so just be careful, keep all water away from it and you'll keep all your eyebrows.

Yup, I use 'em. I place them under the charcoal grate and open the vents. About 5 minutes later, I got a roarin' fire. In another 5 the meat goes on!

Am I the only one that can taste an off taste when using the Weber cubes? We quit using them because of it. Now I use the "hair dryer of doom" aka Looftlighter.

We use the Weber pariffin cubes as well at comps. We just strategically place 2-3 within the pile of unlit charcoal and light them. In short order the whole pile is rollin.
I still go old school with newspaper for the chimney at home though.

I don't put the food on until long after the cubes are gone. I've never noticed any off flavor.

This is what you're looknig for...in my opinion. Cheap and simple, and lasts for MANY uses. I always used paraffin to make these.
Although, truth be told, most every time I just grab a couple paper towels from the kitchen on the way out back to light up the grill and pour a little cooking oil on them. However, if you want a cheaper alternative to the fire starter cubes, this is the best I can recommend.
