It's been a fun build for this ice cold winter. The low tonight will be -23 degrees. Glad to have a heated shop for this build.

Nice looking tank dpeatrowsky. As far as the fire box I suggest using Feldon's calculator to determine the size of your box, stack, and everything else you will need for you new build. Heres the link. http://www.feldoncentral.com/bbqcalculator.html My box is 28.5" wide, 20.5" tall and 24" tall. Are you building a Reverse Flow or straight flow?

As you can see from the pics, mine is a Reverse Flow. If you're not too far along with your build, I would suggest you take a look at going with Reverse flow. I currently own both and wouldn't ever go with straight flow again. I get much better temperature control with the reverse flow.
What ever you decide, use the Feldon calculator as your guide. I also suggest checking out http://www.smokerbuilder.com |

Yes I can't afford any more sheet metal so I may convert later. I also have the stack already in place. Thanks for all your help.

I hear ya about the cost of sheet steel. You got to do what you can afford to do.
Good luck with the build and feel free to fire any questions at me that you may have. |

It all depends on the width of your tank. You also have to take into consideration the thickness of the sheet steel you are using. My take is 30" and my box inside dimension is 28.5" My outside dimension is 29" taking into consideration the 1/4 sheet steel.
I'm also going to send you a private message on this forum. |

Well I got the steel ordered and I'm going to make the box Friday. I went ahead and had the steel shop cut all the pieces. Now I wonder how many cans of paint I will need.

What thickness steel are you using for the firebox? What type of welding equipment will you be using to weld the box?
