Default Aleppo Pepper from Syria

Is anyone else using Aleppo Pepper from Syria? This is a mildly hot pepper with fruitiness and a smoky flavor. We have started using it lately and wonder if any other Brethren have experiences with this pepper--good or bad

I stumbled across Aleppo pepper about a month ago, and absolutely love it. I would also like to hear new ideas on using this pepper.

Some of the way that I have used it:
mixed with yogurt and marinated chicken cubes for kabobs
added to potato salad
used in vinaigrette dressings
sprinkled on pizza
used in place of crushed red pepper

Sumac is another spice that pairs well with Aleppo pepper, especially when sprinkled on rice and the chicken kabobs!

I got mine there too. That place is like a candy store.

I love the allepo pepper. I mix it in with dishes, but I originally bought it as a pizza sprinkle.

I have used it and find it particularly interesting in use with sumac. It can also be used to make a paste that is used both as a paste marinade and as a dip. It is quite aromatic used in this manner.

It's good stuff! The sumac too!

There is a middle eastern spice blend called Za'atar that contains sumac, sesame seeds and herbs. The one I'm used to is from a Lebanese store and is heavy on the thyme. Really Really good on chicken kabobs with some Aleppo for heat. The heat of the grill toasts the sasame seeds and makes it something special.

The za'atar is also really good on your favorite grilled bread with a good olive oil and/or some cream cheese/labneh(yogurt cheese)

I got my first small batch from Penzey's but thought that is was price prohibitive for use in bulk.

The bag I bought at the Mediterranean spice shop was one pound and cost $4.99. The brand label says "Tazah" which I was told means "Fresh" It is imported by Karabetian Import and Export 2450 Street Los Angeles, CA

The bag says email [email protected] for information

I think I paid at least double for an 8 ounce bag from Penzey's. I can't remember exactly---but I recall that it seemed expensive at the time

I bought some at local penzey's store. I like it but don't use it as often. (too many spices, not enough time mod). great on about anything.
