This thread is a result of another thread where I was asking for opinions on purchasing an offset.

I am looking at a couple used options but also looking at the Lang 48 and the Meadow Creek TS120

I would love to hear from those who have compared the two or at least seen the two.

Lang will be more popular due to the fact its a southern company for sure, not many Yankees know how to Que.

May not be many but hoping a few have compared them.

It would appear to me that you've chosen 2 pretty good smokers. At this point it's
probably down to personal preference and $$$.

I love my Lang and IF I ever change it will be for another Lang. For that matter I've
had Honda's since 1984, and I'll only get rid of a Honda for another (still have my mower
that I purchased in 1986). I'm of the opinion that if it works, and doesn't break,
DON'T break it. :)
 
Look to craigslist and other BBQ sites for sales. The Lang 60 seems more comparable
to the TS120, even then is quite a bit less. I'd ask if he has a dealer somewhere up
there.

My Honda HR214 is twenty years old and still runnin great! In fact...I'm replacing the tires this offseason...the ducktape just wont hold on any longer.

HR205, original everything (wheels too) except I finally had to replace
the pull rope this past spring. Otherwise, original. I'm probably due for
new wheels any time now. I remember when I bought it a very dear friend
of mind said at the time "you have more money than sense". I showed
him that mower this past summer and reminded him how he's been through
probably 5 mowers since... :becky::doh: He did go on and on this past weekend
about how nice my 2000 Accord was and that the leather still looks new.
We used my car to head out for the saturday guys afternoon outing to
Bass Pro Shop and a stop over at Wild Wing Cafe (for wings and brew).
You know, the car with 190,000 miles on it and hasn't missed a beat...

Sorry for hijack. Seriously, look to the used market, or ask about
dealers within a few hundred miles. An afternoon outing one Saturday
is well worth the price difference (driving a few hundred miles each
direction). I truly believe that you wont regret your purchase of the
Lang. I dont know about Meadow Creek one way or another, but I do
feel strongly about the Lang.
 
Let's put it this way...

Before I shelled out the money... saw both Meadowcreek and Lang up close and in use.

Bought a used Lang 48 patio... and glad I did.
 
Regarding Lang shipping.
If you scroll down to the bottom of the home page it states that "All items are to be picked up at our location. Visit coastal Georgia or have someone pick it up for you." Looks as though something has changed.

I saw that too, and although I am sure I could eventually end up making arrangements sure is a pain when there are other options.
 
I'm surprised this wasn't pointed out yet but the MCs use a less than 3/16" (that's correct I just got off the phone with them and it's not even a full 3/16") tank whereas the Langs use a full 1/4". Now the Meadow Creek guys think the extra thickness in the tank is just added dead weight and expense but I find that a bit difficult to swallow. Not sure what others think.

Incidentally, Meadow Creek currently has a used TS250 on sale for about $4500 or about 10% off. They are also doing 5-7% off on the new models...

I agree with Bandit. I too looked at all of the options before I purchased the Mistress (man that sounds bad) and in my opinion, Lang is the the best.

You can contract with shippers to pick it up and deliver. I know Ben was using a couple that would show up with a pickup and a trailer.

All kidding aside, I too didn't want a cooker on a trailer. I live near enough to the city that trying to get a trailered cooker next to my house would have been damn tough. I ordered a 'Lang 60 Patio' that works great. It sits along side the house and yet fits into my trailer for comps.

I think if you talk with Ben, you'll find that he can build most anything you are looking for.
 
Lake Dog brings up a good point.
The Lang 60 DLX and TS 120 are more similiar and the camparison should be done between them.

I don't think you can go wrong with either cooker. I have two Langs and they are both great. The 60 is a great size and to my understanding is much less expensive then the Meadow Creek. The appearance of a Meadow Creek is probably better then the Lang, but who really cares about that. I use my Lang 60 more then any other of the large cookers that I have.

I am not sure on the thickness of the cooking chamber. Heck I have a Char Broil Offset that I have cooked on in the winter up here many moons ago, still around and just hangs out at the end of the driveway, all year long with no protection. My first real cooker, kind of hard to throw away. I cook on it every year on labor day, a bunch of burgers for my family just cause its down there and the rest of my stuff is on my porch.

Don't think 1/16" in the cooking chamber would stop me, just like most would not get rid of their Klose and Langs if someone new started building one with 5/16" chambers.

Most builders put the emphasis on the firebox, not the cooking chamber.
I think having Stainless Steel grates is a good trade off for chamber thickness.
 
I cook on a drum all winter with no issues either burning charcoal but the thinner the steel on stick burners means the more heat you will loose which means more wood will be needing which means more time will be needed to babysit the cooker.

Those meadow creek cookers look pretty cool though.
 
so lang used new propane tanks(presumably 3/16th) a few years ago now they roll their own 1/4 inch plate?

The difference between 3/16th and 1/4 inch is a non issue in a stick burner IMO, make it 3/8th of 5/16th, then your talkin a different animal. I wish more people would consider insulated fireboxes.
 
Langs are tough to beat for the price it seems. Pretty much bullet proof and built like a tank...no the purdiest cooker out there, but they sure can cook
 
lang vs meadow creek

bought my land 60 last year love it. we travelled about 900 miles to ge t it. it travelled well thru the mountains in snow. has been great !
