Hello everyone, first thanks for all the good advice and reading material, it really guided my decision to buy a quality off-set smoker. I generally do a lot of research before making a substantial purchase and I am very glad that I did in this case as I was almost about to drop good money on the Old Country brand Wrangler smoker, but after much inspection their build quality and QA was not up to my standards. So I began my quest on CL and after about four weeks of looking I almost decided to just have one custom built by a reputable welder, then I came across a home built gem at a good price (about $200 more than the wrangler though).

Anyway, long story short, I drove out to see the pit and was amazed at the design and build quality of this smoker. It's 1/4" thick steel, firebox is large, the welds are some of the best I've seen (and I know a thing or two about weld/ing. It weighs about 450 lbs, has a controllable flue bw the firebox and cook chamber, all around great pit and I would say better than many of the top names out there. And I would brag on this even if I didn't purchase it.

Well, I am hooked now and ready to begin my long journey into great QUE and learning each day. Probably going to start off easy with a chicken then some pork (butt or loin) and really want to try to cool smoke some cheese and nuts for the holidays.

Will have to post pics later when I can get to my computer or figure out if I can insert from my iPhone to the forum directly?

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum BBQFeste, glad to have you join us and hopefully take part in the other forums. Keep us updated on your cooks in your new smoker.

We don't have a lot of rules here other than spam and advertising are not permitted, the rest is just common sense, courtesy, and mutual respect for one another.

I recall my first visit to the Brethren, for months I was afraid to post and ask questions, even though I had experience under my belt. You'll find a great group of people here with a willingness to help and guide you, regardless of of how simple or how complicated you think your question may be. You'll also find that there are many ways to achieve great food, there is no single "cookie cutter" method as some have been conditioned to think. You'll just have to try a few different methods and soon you'll master the way that works best for you.

We'll be here to guide you and answer your questions as you begin your journey into smoking and BBQ. Pretty soon you'll go from asking questions to posting pictures of your progress, and we will all share in your experience as true Brethren.

We have many different forums here.... Below are just a few of them.

For discussion on BBQ/Smoking related topics, we have the "Q-Talk" Forum. This is a good starting point for all new Brethren.

For those who are interested in competing, We have a "Competition BBQ" forum.

We also have a "Catering, Food Handling and Awareness" and "Catering, Vending and Cooking For The Masses".

We also have a trading forum where members can trade sauces and rubs available from different areas around our country.

For general non BBQ related talk we also have "The Wood Pile" forum.

I hope to see you in the "Q-Talk" forum soon. You'll find help on almost every topic from cooking your first Pork Butt to curing and smoking your own ham and bacon.

If you can't find the topic you need help with, or have questions about a specific topic, just start a new thread in the related forum.

There are many members with years of experience that are willing to answer your questions and share their knowledge to guide you in the right direction. Collectively there is a wealth of experience and knowledge among the membership, including you. Don't be afraid to jump in there and share your knowledge and your experiences as well.

Greetings from a bit down 380 (Princeton). I lived in Aubrey on 380 up until a year and a half ago.

Greetings from Pittsburgh. You'll enjoy this site. I learn something new just about every time I log in.

Thanks everyone, really like this site and the people here are about as friendly/helpful/knowledgeable as they get.

Those that live close by, where is the best place(s) to buy any BBQ tools of the trade, like the simple stuff such as a good ash remover for a round firebox? Spices? Etc.

I buy most of my stuff online from the great Brethren vendors or Amazon.
