Just picked up a copy of the Sayville (NY) Chamber of Commerce "Discover Sayville Summer-Fall 2007" Events calendar and noticed the following:

Sat. Oct. 20th and Sun. Oct. 21st: Fall Festival and BBQ Event - 1st Annual "Battle of the BBQ Brethren", Kansas City Style BBQ Society Competition, Food and Exhibition. Gillette Park and the Common Ground.

I had heard "rumors" of this, but I hadn't heard that it had all come together. Should I be cancelling my reservations in Dover?

Yes, its official.. we are awaiting governers proclamation.

Its a WillyB event to benefit breast Cancer. I will let WillyB do the honors of details and such.

we are looking at being ablt to hold 30-35 teams
its already on the KCBS web site

So this was the big announcement? I was just going to ask today what was happening with that. What a drag Phil that you didn't get to make the announcement yourself but it sounds pretty cool anyway. How do you get in?
 
Its Willys announcment..

I was a decoy. :)

WillyB gets all credit here for coming up with this, and BigBarry and motoeric have been working the details, doing footwork, planning, etc... (I just came in when they asked if they can use the name.) its got potential to be a great event.. we just have to get the ball rolling.. time is short.

absolutly NO Problem! its already been announced on KCBS and some flyers were give n out at nebs contests.. They were just waiting for some final details to iron out before announcing here.

I've crossed Dover off my calendar and have written Sayville in. A comp where I can run home for a shower; what more could I ask for?
 
Where's Sayville and who are the Brethren?

I'm marking this down and hoping the wife doesn't go into labor 2 weeks early...:eek:

When it comes to applications etc, i am always last minute. Earlier this year when the announcement was made for Dover , Vinny sent me a message and THAT day i printed an application and mailed in my payment. I felt so good doing that because Dover is a contest that really want to be a part of. From what i have heard it is a great event. Besides it being a contest I love that track. I go to see NASCAR Nextel Cup races every year , it is a fantastic location. It really kills me that instead of driving 4 hours i can go to to a contest that is only 40 minutes away. Unfortunately i have to say that i wish the battle to be a great success but a am still gonna go to Dover.

I really wish the date could have been different but I understand that this date tied in with other activites at this contest site....

I know some involved will be dissappointed, but I will be competing in Dover as well based on previous committment, the positive feedback on last years event, the large team count, and the fact that it's my wife's birthday and if I take her to Dover she can stay in the hotel/casino on site and feel like she's getting a weekend away out of it.

I wish all involved great success with this contest and wish I could have been competing here as well. I know you guys have been working very hard behind the scenes. It will be a lot of work from now up to and including contest day, but the reward will be great and it's for a good cause.

Maybe next year !!!! Assuming it's decided that there will be a year 2 after this one is over.
It would be even better if the dates did not have to conflict to take advantage of two contests in the fall.

I'd certainly love to be there with everyone this year, but if Dover's got as well run of a contest as I hear (with on site Internet hook up !!) and continues to grow in team size and bigger cash prizes (that I one day hope to actually take home slightly more than lunch money that I get now) I'd hate to miss out and end up needing to be on a waiting list next year ..
