Default off-set modifications phase 1 (pic heavy)

Before:

Phase 1 modification:

I had big dreams of making a square outlet like a Jambo with a bigger outlet hole. We'll see how this works first. I also removed the gas line and the log lighter to make for easier ash removal - especially during cooks.

Next step. build a new wood box and add some side panels.

You will have to explain this one. I thought that the smokestack should come from the highest point to ensure that stale smoke didn't hover in the top of the smoker.

Always willing to learn.

Next major expense for you might just be a new roof.

The issue I am trying to fix is uneven heat throughout the cooking chamber. If you have the smoke stack on the top then the heat follows a path from the firebox to the outlet and thus the end farthest away from the firebox (and directly under the outlet) can be up to 50* cooler than the firebox end of the cooking chamber.

What I hope my mod will do is draw the heat directly and evenly across the chamber.

If there is an issue with stale smoke then I suspect the problem is with the efficiency of the fire itself. You will almost never see any smoke coming out of my smokestack by the time I have my meat in the cooker no matter where the outlet is located.

I will do a test cook tomorrow and I will see how the temps do. I may need to make a bigger outlet.

i think your concept of the lowered stack should work. As long as the smoker is some what air tight. Because its going to cause a vaccum effect after a few minutes. I like the idea, keep us posted

Moving the stack to food grate is a common mod for heat control, nice job! can't wait to see trial run pics!

So... What have we learned from this thread, boys and girls?

We've learned to photochop any pictures to remove or blur out any distractions or blemishes on our driveways, houses, etc. If you don't, some sharp-eyed Brother or Sister will call you out on them.
