Default Off-set smoker questions

Been thinking about building an off-set smoker. Been thinking about using a 24inch wide pipe for the body, unless I find a 250 gallon tank or 120 gallon tank. Does anyone know the diameter of the tanks? Been thinking about building this thing about 5 feet long with reverse flow. Anyone got any suggestions that would help me make up my mind and get me off my arss? Thanks

As you can see by my signature line, I love my reverse flow Lang.

I guess if I had to come up with a list of changes I would make, I would try to insulate the cooking are if you can. We currently use a heavy moving blanket to accomplish this. I would also try to make the center plate as thick as I could to really spread out the heat.

Other than that, I really can't come up with much...

If it don't come off a smoker, it's just a side dish!

Here is what I have. It was a250 gallon fuel tank years ago. But now, she's a cooking machine. I can not tell you the dimensions off the top of my head but I can tell you it holds a lot of meat.

There are two racks. each is just below the thermometers. There is about a 50* temp difference in the two racks but planing and placement take care of that.

Sounds like a plan. Are you going to be doing the work yourself?

Keep us posted...

A 24x70" horizontal air tank is about 120 gallons.
A 30x96" horizontal propane tank is about 288 gallons.

A piece of 24x60" pipe would make a damn fine cooker IMO.

That thing is really unusual. It reminds me of a dice cup on its side. You should name it "Rollin Sevens"

Thank you seattlepitboss.
Sounds like a 120 gallon air tank would be about the same size only longer.

Iam having a hard time gettin started. Iam trying to figure out where the doors are to be cut. Is the top cut where the hinges go straight up the middle, or off to one side or the other, and what are the advantages and disadvantages of both?
